The world is screwed up
In Africa, thousands upon thousands
suffer in drought stricken regions
with no food or water
to fill their empty bellies
or soothe their parched throats.
I sit frustrated in home
because the air conditioning is broken
and the water heater is too
so that I dread having
to take a cold shower in the morning.
The children in Kenya and Somalia
lie limp on the ground
with flies crawling over their limbs
in the dirt under a tree
where their mothers seek a brief
respite in the partial shade
from the relenting sun
I sit grumbling
that the satellite TV dish sometimes
goes down in a storm
so that I must sit quietly
without the distraction
of having to see
children starving in Africa.
The world is screwed up.
No,
not just the world,
me.
"Ain't no use jiving.
Ain't no use joking.
Everything is broken."
- Dylan said it better than me
and with harmonica too:
