Larry died today.
A mechanic by trade,
he slung a wrench
to ensure that school buses
were safe and sound
for the children
that they nurtured
every school day of the year.
And even then
parents knew that Larry
cared for their children
because he answered phone calls
from distressed moms
worried that their child's
bus was late.
A little rough,
a little gruff on the outside
with his tools in one hand
or the other
or safely put away in the box
where he organized his profession.
Larry died today.
A mechanic whose
heart was big for kids
and drivers too.
