The obituary in tonight's paper
it certainly says your name
and it says that you were just thirty-four
when our Maker softly came.
But what it doesn't say about you
is something most don't want to hear.
You died quietly and all alone
and from a disease that people fear.
Why is that we are afraid?
Why can't we seem to care?
Why is it that so few will even stop to say
a simple, special prayer?
God grant us Your Serenity
when another addict dies.
And for the loved ones who suffer silently
let Grace and pathos soothe their lonely cries.
