Quiet Evening

It's mostly quiet here this evening.
The occasional motor vehicle
in the distance
and the dog's barking inside may
override at times
the crickets' serenade.

Jupiter rising in the south, south east
one of the first visible skylights
other than a half moon.
Soon to be followed
by first one,
then another,
and then another star
until the sky itself
joins as backdrop
for the symphony
of silence
and crickets below.

I am alone tonight,
not that unusual.
But now,
I prefer and relish
the solitude.

Tonight,
I want to
hold onto to the silence
and my seclusion.

Tomorrow?
Maybe no.
