Two days ago we learned
that Michelle tested positive
in the midst of this pandemic.
Michelle of the contagious smile,
single 30 something mother
and our assistant shelter director.
The Health Department didn't want us
to tell the other employees
or the women and children in the shelter
because it might cause panic.
They say we have done all we can
to ensure that folks in the shelter are safe.
I don't know what to think about that.
I just don't know.
I do know it caused concern in our director
who has now put herself in isolation also
having been in close contact.
The last two days have been
headaches and stress.
But I can't imagine the thoughts going
through Michelle's mind
or what she has said to her child.
"Mommy's going to be alright, baby.
Mommy's going to be alright."
"Michelle, my belle.
These are words that go together well."
My prayer for our Michelle:
Keep her and her child safe
Send the virus straight to hell.
And for the other women and children in the shelter,
whose lives have already been impossible,
hold them close to you, Jesus.
Keep them dear to you and well.
