On the Third Day

On the first day
of your son's preschool,
my nerves and both our
separation anxieties
palpable.
Still, he seems to have done alright.
I hope this school is right for him.
Did I do
what you would do?

On the second day
of your son's preschool,
my apprehension centered
on his first time ever
in a swimming pool.
He says he liked the water.
Relief.
Is that what
you would have felt?

On the third day
of your son's preschool,
the expressed separation anxiety
was limited to hugs and tears
in the kitchen before we departed,
"grandpa, can you stay?"
Now, I am thankful
for a couple hours to myself.
Yahoo!
On a rainy Friday
in a quiet house,
I think of you.
