Autumn Arrival

Gray skies, cold rain.
Swaying trees, breezy day.
Autumn announces its arrival
earlier than one who doesn't want
to lose the mellowness
of the warm summer days
would prefer.
And as much as I would desire it,
the approaching winter
cannot be stopped
nor the earth's southerly tilt
toward the sun
bringing spring down under
as it brings fall here
today.
