Do the Children of Flint Have Dreams Too?
I had a dream last night.
For those of you
who often remember such things,
nothing unusual.
But for me,
I had a dream last night.
Don’t remember my last,
a year or more ago.
But I remember waking
last night
to a dream.
Drifting on a raft
down the Flint River
through the heart of Flint, Michigan,
home of Michael Moore,
the Roger & Me
Flint.
Drifting on a raft
somewhere in Flint’s north side
with a river
bordered on all sides
by African Americans
and the poor
left isolated
in the hometown
of a General Motors
that has long abandoned
its roots
and left Flint
on both sides of the Flint River
segregated and poor.
Not sure what it all means.
Not sure I want to know.
But I had a dream last night.
Do the children of Flint
have dreams too?
