The buds, soon to be leaves,
tip the ends of the trees.
The lilacs blossom early
and everywhere is the pure green
chlorophyll of spring.
Hidden in the side
of my yard
under the shade
of the ornamental tree,
the wild violets
(or to be precise
their miniature cousins)
have taken over
their corner.
From a distance,
the uneven grass in the lawn
may need mowing
but such chores will have to wait
for these imperial buds
hide amongst the blades of green
and I cannot cut them
for they bloom delicately
this early spring.
