Siddhartha

Herman Hesse's book Siddhartha first written in 1922 and apparently translated to English after World War II, having sat on my bookshelves for more than four perhaps closer to five decades, has finally been read.

The first section of the book in which Siddhartha as a Brahmin's son studies with the Samanas (i.e., ascetic seekers) and eventually meets the Gotama Buddha is what I expected to read.

The turn in the second section surprised me in which Siddhartha meets "the beautiful Kamala" and from there in order to court her seeks and becomes a businessman striving for and achieving great wealth.

Forever the seeker, eventually Siddhartha abandons that life as well and in the end leads a much simpler life.

Seemingly, he finally finds what he is seeking.  Inner peace?
